COMPUTE

Capacity, not servers

Fabric bills against shared capacity units. Workloads that coexisted on one instance can contend for the same capacity, so sizing is a portfolio decision.

SQL SURFACE

Familiar T-SQL, different implementation

The Warehouse speaks T-SQL, which makes migration look trivial. The implemented surface differs from SQL Server, and gaps only appear once procedures run.

Direct Lake changes the cutover

Power BI can read Delta directly rather than importing. That removes a refresh step but ties reporting correctness to table layout.
